Adventure into Taste Sensations

Sybaris Bistro

Their menu changes every single month, which is ambitious to say the least. But it’s the fare that Sybaris offers that’s the most impressive and unexpected. Self-described as “equal parts eclecticism, classical preparation, and innovation,” their menu delivers such delightful choices as halibut with coconut sticky rice, crispy duck leg with a Thai green curry, and grilled crawfish and turkey sausage with tasso mashed potatoes and a gumbo sauce. Yeah.
Perhaps equally as delightful is its location in downtown Albany, in an historic industrial building. Lively and spacious, the tables are set in intimate configurations with cherry wood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. Walking through the front door takes you from the quaint streets of Albany into an upscale bistro worthy of downtown Manhattan.

Enjoy The Scenic North Umpqua River from the High Cascades to the Pacific Ocean

Douglas County Oregon can boast that within its borders from the Cascade mountains to the Pacific Ocean is the Umpqua river basin. The source of this extensive river basin is Maidu Lake on the Cascade divide and the mouth of the river is Winchester Bay where it meets the mighty Pacific Ocean. The Scenic Byway, Highway 138, threads its way along side the Scenic North Umpqua River to the confluence of the North and the South Umpqua Rivers at Riverforks Park in Roseburg.

The Owyhee: Oregon's Grand Canyon

By Brian Sykes, Ouzel Outfitters

Hidden away in the southeastern corner of Oregon is a little known natural wonder. A place where golden eagles soar alongside massive cliffs tinged pink and red with the rising sun. Where Indian paintbrush and desert primrose provide a colorful contrast to the stark landscape. Where a long-deserted pioneer home stands lonely and neglected, defying the harsh elements – a testament to the hardy folk who carved out a life here.

From our home in Bend, the driving distance to Camp Sherman is under 45 miles—and anybody who has ever traveled with a toddler and an infant knows why, for us, that’s the first bit of excellent news about this weekend’s getaway. The other reasons to be enthused about our pending adventure are chanted by my daughter, two-and-a-half year old Libby, as we drive towards the Three Sisters. “Sleepover!” she trills. “Cabin!”

Gorge Yourself on the Columbia River

Story by Mike Cheney

Over 30,000 years ago, a flourishing civilization lived and played on the Columbia River Gorge. Excavations show that humans have occupied this ideal salmon fishing site for more than 10,000 years. Just over 200 years ago, the Corps of Discovery, led by Meriweather Lewis and William Clark, traveled in a dugout canoe down the Columbia en route to the Pacific Ocean.

Uncorked in the Applegate Valley

Photos and story by Valorie Webster

The Applegate Valley is one of the few remaining secrets in Oregon, offering a dry, sunny climate and a wide range of varietals. The early pleasures of the trip include crossing over Crater Lake Highway and winding through the Rogue River Valley.

Detroit Lake Camping

I've only been to Detroit Lake campground once, camping with my husband and family. And we did not have a good experience. I had no idea, until we got there, how close to the highway it is! I was awakened every night by loud trucks going past us. Not only was the traffic noisy, but we had noisy neighbors.
