Gadgets and Gear
The other day I was thinking about the word gadget. It’s a funny little word. My dictionary defines a gadget as a small specialized mechanical or electronic device. There are so many gadgets on the market today that I wondered if the definition of the word gadgetry isn’t “a place where gadgets grow.”
As humans have evolved, so to has camping. The activity can be dated back a few hundred thousand years to the days of the Neanderthals. I can picture the scene now.
Two youngsters, let’s call them Og and Thog, would be wreaking havoc in the cramped, dingy quarters of the cave when one of them would fall on the fire and put it out. This was a big deal in that era since it took about six hours of aggressive stick-rubbing to get a new one started.
